HEC is a kind of non-ion aqueous agglomerate,white or yellowish fluid powder,no odor no taste,soluble in both hot and cool water,dissolving faster with temperature rising,usually insoluble in most organic solvents,with good PH stability,its viscosity varies little within PH2-12.HEC offers strong water affinity and water-holding,its water solution has surfactant ability, and its thick product owns high plasticity.It can be made into colorless, transparent, aqueous film with medium strength which is hard to pollute,is not to be effected by light. HEC after surface treatment disperses in water, does not conglomerate,but dissolving slowly; fast dissolving may be got by adjusting PH to 8-10 .In Oil field , Hydroxyethyl cellulose HEC is often used  together with polyanionic cellulose and cmc.

2.1 Applicated in cementing and oil drilling industries

2.11  Hydroxyethl Cellulose thickening agent can be used as oil well workover fluid and cementing agent. Help to provide clarification of the low fixed content solution, thus greatly reducing the structural damage to the wells. The use of Hydroxyethyl Cellulose thickening fluid easily acids, enzymes or oxidants decomposition, greatly omproving the ability to recover hydrocarbons.

2.12 Fluid in the well ,  Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is used as proppant carrier. These liquids can be easily through the process of craking.

2.13 Hydroxyethl Cellulose configuration using drilling fluid, based on its low solids contene, can effectively increase drilling stability. These properties can be used to inhibit the fluid medium to high hardness of the rock and heavy shale or shale drilling.

2.14 Reinforcement in the cement operations, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose slurry can reduce the hydraulic fiction, the loss of rock to minimize water loss.
